BIOGRAPHY OF THE DIRECTOR

Film and theatre director. Wrote and directed 8 short films, shown in competition at international festivals such as Venice, Locarno, Oberhausen, Torino, Huelva, Cinéma du Réel, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. His short film "O Teu Sorriso" (Bliss) earned several prizes in Brazil, including Best Film at Gramado and Rio de Janeiro. Also directed several TV series and 2 theatre plays. Worked as a screenwriter to Ruy Guerra and as an assistant director to Karim Aïnouz, also collaborating with filmmakers such as Sandra Kogut, Jonathan Nossiter, Marcelo Gomes, Sérgio Machado and Cao Guimarães, as well as theatre directors Enrique Diaz and Bia Lessa. On TV, was an episodes director under the directors Luiz Fernando Carvalho, Anna Muylaert, Maurício Farias and Jayme Monjardim. As theater director he staged Harold Pinter's "Old Times", 2011. Participated at Lincoln Center's theater residence "Director's Lab" (New York, 2012) and at the Buenos Aires Berlinale Talent Campus (2008). Currently writing his first feature film script, "Malu", produced by Bubbles Project (Brazil).

ABOUT THE ACTORS

Paulo José is considered one of the most important Brazilian actors of his generation and an icon in Brazilian cinema. He's been acting with important Brazilian directors since the 60's, in Cinema Novo films such as "Macunaíma" and "O Padre e a Moça" (Joaquim Pedro de Andrade) and "Todas as Mulheres do Mundo" (Domingos Oliveira); and also with contemporary directors such as Walter Salles, Jorge Furtado and Julio Bressane. Juliana Carneiro da Cunha lives in Paris, where she's been for several years now the first actress of Thèâtre du Soleil group, leaded by the legendary French stage director Ariane Mnouchkine. She's also worked with Brazilian film directors such as Ruy Guerra and Luis Fernando Carvalho.
